Red onions have many health benefits and are worth consuming more often for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, they are a rich source of vitamin c, biotin, manganese, copper, fiber, phosphorus, potassium and other nutrients. They also contain allacin, a sulphuric compound that helps to detoxify the digestive system and pairs with vitamin C to help vitamin c repair properly.
Red onions also contain Quercetin which is an antioxidant that improves respiratory, heart and blood pressure levels. They also contain chromium which helps balance blood sugar levels as well as the metabolism of carbs, fats and proteins. This also helps to increase bone density as well as strengthen connective tissue. Red onions also prevent cancer and heart attacks, along with killing viruses, bacteria, or fungal candida-based infections. In animal studies it has shown to help balance blood sugar levels.
