Coconut oil is great for boosting brain performance and cognitive function because it does several things to power and strengthen the brain. First it contains omega fatty acids which the brain runs on, so the brain needs this fat to even function. Secondly it contains MCT (medium chain triglycerides) which are medium length fats that the liver oxidizes and creates ketone bodies from. These ketone bodies travel in the blood (like glucose) but are an alternative fuel source for the brain that lasts longer. Coconut oil also boosts dopamine which is the neurotransmitter (think of it as a light switch) that turns the brain on and connects different areas of the brain, the pre-frontal cortex, the motor and other areas of the brain.

This neurotransmitter turns the lights on in the brain and connects everything, think of it as wattage to some degree… an electrical firing system. So the fats are the fuel, the omega fats & MCT and the dopamine connects everything. Lastly, coconut oil contains vitamin E which is great for protecting the brain, improving cognitive memory and performance. Approximately 93% of americans are deficient in vitamin E and research shows that sufficient vitamin E helps to prevent memory loss, alzheimer’s and other memory loss conditions.
