One of the most important factors in staying healthy and active is to be hydrated and often times it’s easy to forget to drink enough water each day, especially with all the different types of beverages on the market, including healthy ones. Staying hydrated and drinking enough water is important to keep your cells healthy, your nervous system healthy and your digestive system healthy. Not only that but staying hydrated helps every single function of your body do it’s job properly. Remember that your body is 70% water, so you need a lot of it!
Dehydration will cause low energy levels, lethargy, less than high quality sleep, bad digestion, as well as lack of mental clarity and focus. Staying hydrated does so much for your health and it’s nearly free to do so, you just have to take the time to do it.
So here are the top 5 signs that you are dehydrated:
1. Your blood pressure is low: When you are not properly hydrated the lack of oxygen molecules don’t have a chance to move to the bloodstream which regulate blood pressure. When you hydrate your body your molecules (from water) move into the bloodstream to balance blood pressure which strengthens your nervous system and muscles.
2. Lightheaded or Headaches: Blood pressure and blood volume change when you are dehydrated, and this will cause you to feel lightheaded or have a headache or migraine. The headaches and migraines can also be linked to toxicity of the Liver, so cleanse your liver and drink more water!
3: Irregular Heartbeat: Because of the electrolyte balance of sodium and potassium you need to be properly hydrated in order to give your heart the sodium and potassium that it needs for regular heartbeats. Heart palpitations are caused because of dehydration typically.
4. Dry Skin Or Lips: If your skin is dry or lacks elasticity then that’s a good indicator that you are dehydrated. The skin is the foremost organ so all the other organs will receive hydration first so if your skin is dehydrated it means you are not getting enough water.
5. You’re Thirsty!: If you feel the need to drink more water then you are probably dehydrated. Listen to your body and it will let you know if you need to drink more water. A good rule of thumb is to drink 50% of your body weight in ounces of water each day, or more if you live in a hot/humid climate or are doing strenuous exercise and sweating.
