Did you know that you can drink baking soda? Weird right. Why would you? most people use baking soda for cleaning, deodorizing, or laundry. But it has many more uses. Baking soda is right around 8.3 to 9. It’s alkaline on the chart meaning that if you ingest it your body will adapt to become slightly more alkaline. The pH of the body changes based on what’s consumed.

If you consume acidic foods and drinks, your body becomes more acidic over time. If you consume alkaline foods and drinks, your body becomes more alkaline over time. Generally speaking processed foods that are boxxed, bagged, canned, and in bottles are acidic. The more processed your diet the more acidic your body generally will be.

Fresh, whole foods on the other hand such as vegetables and fruits help to keep the body alkaline. These foods are alkalizing.

Baking soda can be used in the following ways:

  • Cleaning drains, polishing,
  • Great for hair, mix with apple cider vinegar to condition hair.
  • Baking soda is great for polishing metals such as silver
  • Making toothpaste and deodorant
  • Cleaning and deodorizing your fridge
  • Itching and swelling
  • Putting out grease fires

Beyond this it can be used internally to restore health and remedy ailments. Baking soda is cheap, about a buck for a box and it’s one of the cheapest ways to improve your health.

You can mix baking soda with water (or other various liquids) to ingest it and help to alkalize your body internally.

These 3 recipes below are used for different ailments. The first is used for boosting energy and electrolyte levels. The second is for reducing acid reflux and the third recipe is for boosting and optimizing metabolism.

Recipe #1: Energy & Electrolyte Booster

What you’ll need:

Instructions:

  1. Mix the coconut water with baking soda until it is dissolved fully.
  2. Add everything else and pour mixture into glass jar.
  3. Shake well before drinking.
  4. This will last for a week in the fridge!

The Benefits:

Coconut water, lemon, raw honey and sea salt are rich in minerals, trace minerals and electrolytes. Magnesium, potassium, calcium, zinc, iron, manganese, and many b-vitamins for energy. These ingredients boost energy levels, strengthen the nervous system and enhance cardiovascular health. Raw honey also contains specific acids and enzymes that benefit liver health which benefit circulation, blood sugar levels and hormones.

Baking soda is an alkaline agent that helps to alkalize the body and enhance cellular health. This drink has a delicious sweet, lemon flavor and is a great gatorade replacement.

Recipe #2: The Acid Reflux Reliever

What you’ll need:

Instructions:

  1. Pour 6-8 ounces of water in a glass
  2. Add 2 tablespoons of raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar and mix
  3. Add 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda and mix in
  4. Mix thoroughly and let it settle (after it foams) and then drink!

The Benefits:

Apple cider vinegar is acidic in the bottle but when enters the body it helps to alkalize the body. Baking soda is alkalizing to the body as well. When someone has acid reflux it simply means that their body is too acidic and they need alkalizing agents to neutralize the acids. Baking soda and apple cider vinegar help to do that. Also the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) isn’t operating functionally in order to keep the acid in the stomach. This has to do with nutritional deficiencies so do more research on this to solve the problem for good.

Recipe #3: Green Tea Metabolism Booster

What you’ll need:

Instructions:

  1. Add water to a pot and make green tea!
  2. Add in 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda, mix in and drink up!

The Benefits:

A study from Penn state found that drinking green tea can help people aiming to lose fat and become fit to do so more efficiently. Mice were fed green tea extract and they had a body mass reduction of 27.1 percent and an average abdominal mass reduction of 36.6 percent! That’s huge.

Green tea contains 3 compounds (catechins, theanine and caffeine) that block enzymes responsible for storing fat in the body. In other words, these compounds in green tea tell the fat in your body that this is no longer a good place to store itself. We’ve long known about the health and metabolism benefits of green tea. The study from Penn State just confirms it.

Remember that baking soda is alkaline so if it is mixed with something it will increase the pH (alkalinity) of whatever it is mixed with. This means that you can simply add baking soda to water and drink it to alkalize your body. You can also add it to coffee to neutralize the acidity of coffee. It’s great to always have on hand at home whether it’s used for cleaning, laundry or internal use.
