Your health depends on much more than your diet. Being a health coach, health blogger and having a health podcast for a while taught me a lot. Diet plays a big role in how healthy we are, how we feel, how we sleep and our the strength and resilience of our body to prevent disease. Diet is just one aspect though. Beyond diet there’s movement (exercise), there’s breathwork (oxygen!), hydration (water), and so much more.
Stress and emotions also play a large role in health. Did you know that stress depletes essential minerals and electrolytes? You could have the perfect diet but your stress each day could be ruining that ‘perfect diet’ in the end. Stress and emotional trauma play a huge role in our health, happiness and well-being. Toxic life trauma such as pain, death, abuse and on and on store themselves in the body, and not in a positive way.
Yet another element of health that is often also overlooked beyond diet is the use of chemicals. Many people use chemical-based sprays such as Febreze and pollute their own breathing environment with chemicals. People use different beauty products or hygiene products that are full of toxic and carcinogenic (cancer causing) chemicals. Everything you use from your deodorant, to cologne or perfume. Even the products you use on your hair and on your skin. Toothpaste too! The list goes on and on.
The products that we use on ourselves and in our homes are either natural and plant-based or they are synthetic chemicals that interfere with our health and biology.
Laundry detergent is no exception. Unfortunately most laundry detergents are full of toxic chemicals. Take Tide for example, probably the most recognized laundry detergent brand in the United States. Tide contains propylene glycol which is a known endocrine (hormone) disruptor. Tide also contains various other chemicals, a few of which are known carcinogens such as 1,4-dioxane. Beyond that, Tide also contains Fragrance among a host of other toxic chemicals. I highly recommend avoiding Tide laundry detergent and here’s why.
Why You Should Upgrade To Chemical Free Laundry Detergent:
3 Good Reasons To Upgrade Your Laundry Detergent Today:
- Stop Breathing in Toxic Chemical Fumes From Laundry:
When you use laundry detergent brands like tide or gain you’re choosing to use chemicals that you then breathe in. The laundry releases these chemical fumes in your entire home. Breathing in these chemicals is not good for your health and many people who get headaches would have headaches much less if they simply stopped using these toxic chemicals in their homes.
- Avoid Having These Chemicals Sit on Your Skin: When you use laundry detergents that are full of chemicals you’re soaking your clothes, your bedsheets, your underwear, your dish towel and everything else in between in these toxic chemicals. There’s a reason that your laundry smells like the laundry detergent after it comes out of the dryer. There is still a laundry detergent (chemical) residue on your clothing and whatever else you wash. Your clothes, sheets and dish washing towel then sit on your skin or in your home and your skin gets irritated from these chemicals. The skin is the largest organ in the human body. What sits on our skin does get into our bloodstream. Sure, it’s not like you’re taking the laundry detergent and bathing in it, but your body still soaks up these chemicals. In the case of Tide and Gain, some of these chemicals are carcinogenic (cancer causing) and others are endocrine (hormonal) disrupting chemicals. What’s the point of using that? To smell like chemicals?
- Your Laundry Detergent is Polluting The Environment: These laundry detergents are full of chemicals that kill plant life and pollute our existence here. That alone should be a reason to stop using them, but most people have trouble thinking, or especially acting outside of themselves unfortunately. The detergent itself is toxic. Try watering your plants with Tide and see what happens, the plants will die. Not only that, but we use so much plastic as a society. Did you know that there is a plastic “State” the size of Texas floating around in the ocean? It’s true, google it. The cool thing about My Green Fills laundry detergent is that you get a refill packet and that refill packet gives you a new container of detergent, just add water! My green fills is natural, free of carcinogenic and hormonal disrupting chemicals. You’ll use less plastic, saving the plastic jug and using it over and over again.Plus, on top of that…
Tide costs 19 cents per load of laundry.
My Green Fills costs just 17 cents per load of laundry.
