Many people are deficient in magnesium all over the world, especially in America because our soil has been depleted of essential nutrients over these last several decades as pesticide and chemical use on crops continues to increase. The last article I wrote about The Top 6 Signs Of Magnesium Deficiency to hopefully help you recognize if you may have a magnesium deficiency. It’s not uncommon for Americans to be deficient in Magnesium, About 70-80% of Americans are deficient in this mineral vital for human health.

If by reading or being tested you have found that you are magnesium deficient, or may think that you are because you have some of the symptoms of being deficient in magnesium then it would be smart to take the right action to begin to replenish the magnesium levels and reserves in your body. There are plenty of foods that are magnesium rich and including these in your diet on a daily basis is a great first step to increasing your magnesium levels but this can often take a while for most people to fully replenish their magnesium levels using just food. It becomes harder over time because of soil mineral depletion and to have specific foods that you have to eat and incorporate into your diet can be challenging when you are busy with your family, work, life and general. It’s important to begin eating these foods though so that you can begin to increase the level of magnesium in your body. What you’ll read after this list of foods though will have you excited and stoked about your magnesium deficiency because after doing a good amount of research I believe that I have found the fastest way to replenish magnesium levels back to normal.

Before I get too giddy with excitement though, here’s a list of the top 10 magnesium rich foods to add to your shopping list if you can incorporate a few of them in your diet that’s great and will help.

Top 10 Magnesium Rich Foods

  9. Millet
  10. Pecans

Beyond diet though I have found that using supplementation and routines that are fun (almost game-like, or fun-driven) help you to restore your health and harmony faster and easier. I’ve found that diet is a great first step because if you start eating foods that contain the nutrition you are deficient in they can become a regular staple food in your diet and over time they ensure that you don’t deplete your body of that nutrient further. It’s a great way to not allow for more deficiency of that vitamin or mineral so that things don’t get worse, but it can be very hard for those mineral or vitamin levels to actually increase in the body because of a few factors.

First, absorption of nutrients into your body is more difficult than ever before. With the amount of environmental pollutions, petro-chemicals, toxins and the level our food is processed too our bodies have more difficulty absorbing the nutrition we give it unless we eat perfectly healthy for us. Eating perfectly healthy for yourself is a learning process. Your genetics, allergies, immunity and digestive organ health all plays a role. To sum all this up diet is a great start but let’s take it a step further and literally flood your body with magnesium so you can see and feel the effects of what you’ve been missing and benefit faster starting today.

The first issue is absorption of magnesium. Did you know that your body only absorbs around 20-25% of the magnesium that you ingest. This means that if you’re taking “enough magnesium” to replenish your body from a deficiency that you’re actually only getting 20-25% of that magnesium to be used and stored by your body, the rest is lost. If your naturopath or doctor has you on a certain dosage of magnesium then you’d need to increase that dosage 400% to actually absorb what is needed. This is costly and takes a lot more work so what we can do is optimize your digestive system to improve your absorption of magnesium so that you actually absorb more of your intake.

How Can You Increase Magnesium Absorption?

Thankfully doing this works for both the food that you eat and the magnesium supplements that you take. The biggest factor in improving absorption of magnesium in your body is keeping your small intestine healthy and clean. You can do this by drinking plenty of purified water, eating organic fruits and vegetables and specifically eating organic papaya. You also want to drink kombucha or water kefir. These are drinks containing probiotics that improve intestinal health and will help improve magnesium absorption levels. You can also take a supplement called Fiberzon which is a blend of insoluble and soluble fiber from OrganicRainforestHerbs.com, This works to clean your intestinal tract so that it can absorb magnesium better. Do a few of all of these absorption optimization recommendations to absorb more magnesium from your intake whether through diet, supplementation or both.

These are all great steps to improve magnesium absorption and speed things up. If you want to increase your magnesium absorption you can take your magnesium supplement with coconut oil and black pepper mixed in water. Coconut oil has healthy fats known as MCT’s (medium chain triglycerides) and black pepper contains magnesium itself but is also a known bio-availability enhancer. It contains a compound known as piperine which increases the absorption of magnesium in your gut.

Following these dietary additions to your magnesium supplement routine will enhance magnesium absorption allowing you to actually receive and benefit from more of the magnesium that you take, and this is just the beginning. Not only are you going to see and feel the many benefits of more magnesium in your body instantly using the above methods but if you include them with what i’m about to share with you then you’ll really know the value of magnesium. Getting magnesium into your body and absorbed through diet is tougher than it’s ever been so supplementation can help and add a lot of value, and using the bio-availability optimizing practices outlined for you in this article above you’ll see more magnesium in your body faster than ever before. What else can you do though?

How Else Can You Get Magnesium in Your Body?

Through your skin! Did you know that transdermal application (topically on your skin) is actually a better way to absorb magnesium? In fact, for thousands of years different cultures around the world have been using transdermal application for nutrient absorption through natural hot springs. Transdermal application works better than ingesting magnesium foods or supplements to increase your magnesium uptake because it bypasses all digestive organs and enters the bloodstream directly.  Studies have found that we can absorb up to 64% of what is applied on our skin or more. This is 2-3 times more absorption than internal ingestion of magnesium. Not only that but another study showed that our underarms and genitalia absorb up to 100% of what is applied topically.

After researching this topic for hours I found another very interesting piece of information. Another study found that 31% magnesium chloride solution applied topically had incredible results for both increasing magnesium levels in the human body as well as balancing magnesium/calcium (Ma/CA) ratio. The ratio of magnesium and calcium in your body is very important for many biochemical processes. The study found that from applying magnesium chloride 31% solution to the skin that 89% of the patients saw an increase in cellular magnesium levels and 100% saw an better balance of the calcium to magnesium ratio in the body. This trial lasted for 12 weeks and the patients sprayed 20 sprays a day of this magnesium chloride solution topically.

Knowing all this the best way to increase your magnesium levels in your body as well as your CA/MA ratio you can simply do this by spraying a 31% magnesium chloride solution under your armpits for 3 months (12 weeks) straight. To add to this if you use this spray in a bath with warm (preferably purified) water you can open your pores and receive a higher percentage absorption of the magnesium once again. I should have a book on magnesium and how to get the most into your body in usable form already! This information is so valuable for your health and unfortunately no one is really discussing it and optimizing it for you to get the best results fastest, I will continue to do so though!

I have been supplementing with magnesium for a while now as well as having a magnesium rich diet and Natural Calm is my favorite internal supplement and Omica Organics Magnesium Lavender 31% spray is the best solution topically. You can also get magnesium bath flakes from Omica Organics for great absorption or use Epsom salt which still works quite well.  If you take this supplement (with coconut oil and black pepper in water) along with using the spray and/or bath flakes for topical absorption you will speed things up and replenish your magnesium faster than any other supplement, food or routine out there. It’s not so difficult to get your magnesium level up anymore is it? Spray it on or take a bath with the bath flakes and let your body soak it in with the warm water.

Also keep in mind that Stress and medications/antibiotics deplete magnesium levels faster than anything else so you may find less stress overall and being better to cope with stress as well as less side effects from any mediation that you may be taking.
