We’ve all heard about the health benefits of apple cider vinegar. ACV for short. It’s an amazing digestive aid and beneficial for so many purposes. It wasn’t until a recent chat with a health conscious friend that I realized that apple cider vinegar has specific benefits before sleep.
Oddly enough in the past few months I started taking a shot of it before sleep intuitively and recognized some of these benefits. It wasn’t until I researched further that there are pre-sleep benefits to taking it at that time.
According to WebMD.com:
“Apple cider vinegar is fermented juice from crushed apples. Like apple juice, it probably contains some pectin; vitamins B1, B2, and B6; biotin; folic acid; niacin; pantothenic acid; and vitamin C. It also contains small amounts of the minerals sodium, phosphorous, potassium, calcium, iron, and magnesium. Apple cider vinegar can also contain significant quantities of acetic acid and citric acid. It is used to make medicine.”
As you can see ACV is quite rich in vitamins as well as minerals. These are beneficial to many different systems in the human body.
Apple cider vinegar being a very rich source of acetic acid is an excellent immunity aid. Acetic acid according to The Truth About Cancer:
“Cider vinegar was recently determined to be a strong antimicrobial agent and alternative to toxic and expensive chemical disinfectants. One of the most fatal bacterium, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, is resistant to disinfectants but is found to be killed by acetic acid.
Especially in patients who are immunosuppressed, apple cider vinegar is an excellent natural antimicrobial tonic to rid of harmful bacteria and provide immune support.
Apple cider vinegar puts your gut in a state to digest and absorb what it needs to. One of the big mistakes that many people make is to eat food to close to their bedtime. This causes the body to go into a state of digestion while sleeping. This takes away energy from repairing and rest and reroutes it towards simply digesting that food.
Taking a shot of ACV in water helps your body digest anything it needs to faster so that it takes up less time during your rest.

This mix gives your body what it needs to be put into a better state of relaxation to provide for a more restful nights rest. This mix will also help you fall asleep faster.
Apple cider vinegar helps your body finish the digestion process if needed. It also contains essential minerals for relaxing and calming the body, especially the nervous system, such as magnesium and potassium.
Raw honey gives your liver a bit of glucose to aid in the recovery process. While you’re sleeping your body burns glucose so giving your body a bit right before bed gives your liver more energy to recover your body properly. Remember, the liver has over 600 functions in the human body. This organ is important for managing hormones, blood purification, digesting difficult fats and proteins and more. Giving your liver a little support right before bed helps it do it’s job better while you’re asleep. Honey also contains tryptophan which is a hormone that converts to melatonin which helps benefit sleep quality.
Himalayan salt or sea salt in a small amount (just a pinch) gives your body additional minerals and trace minerals that help your bodily systems relax better. You’re only adding a small pinch of sea salt because apple cider vinegar does contain a small amount of sodium. You’re adding a bit more to ensure that your body has what it needs right before sleep.
According to ElephantJournal.com:
“Dr. Vitiello, director of the University of Washington in Seattle, carried out research that found low levels of sodium cause blood volume to decrease and the sympathetic nervous system responds by activating to compensate. The sympathetic nervous system activates adrenalin and triggers the fight or flight response that then makes it difficult to get to sleep, and also remain asleep.”
What matters most is that you ingest a quality form of salt. Himalayan salt or sea salt are the best 2 options for quality salt in the market.
The mix of honey, apple cider vinegar, salt and water is a tasteful drink! It’s sweet with an apple flavor. You’ll enjoy this bedtime tonic and get a much better night’s rest by doing so. Whether you have insomnia or simply wake up feeling tired still, this is one home remedy to try!
