When summer rolls around ants come out of nowhere. They are looking for any scrap of food that they can get. I keep about 6 jars of raw honey in my kitchen pantry at any given time. The ants are magnetically attracted to my honey. The slightest loose jar seal or a few drops on the outside of the jar and they can smell that stuff from a mile away. I live in an older condo unit as well, so the insulation isn’t as great. Ants seem to be an ongoing problem each summer.
Thankfully there are solutions. Essential oils seem to be the cure all of everything since their inception. I have seen so many articles on essential oils in the last few years. They really are quite magical potion bottles. Essential oils are phytochemicals. A phytochemical is simply a plant chemical. Every plant has phyotochemicals. These chemicals have different properties. Most essential oils have therapeutic or medicinal properties, while others have more functional properties on a day to day basis such as cleaning the home, repelling bugs such as mosquitoes, ants and ticks.

Different essential oils repel different bugs based on what bothers a bugs sensory system. Ants, ticks and mosquitoes all have different sensitivities to different smells. Keeping ants out of your home by using essential oils is a smart move because it repels the ants and the essential oils spruce your place up, keeping it smelling fresh.
This also replaces other bug repellent chemicals that are synthetically made that harm your health as well as your children’s health. In fact, one study found that indoor and outdoor insecticides increased the risk of childhood cancer by over 40%. Read the full article and study here.
