Last year I wrote an article that took off and went viral. It was by far the most popular article I had ever written. Over 100,000 people visited this article in one day and many other websites used the picture of my foot for their article. You’ll see my foot all over the web if you search for ‘onion in socks’ on google. If you didn’t hear about it, you can read the article about why you should put cut up onions in your socks while you sleep here.

I’ve used the method described in the article above, to put cut up onions on my nightstand or all throughout my house as well. The purpose of this is very simple yet very beneficial.

Onions soak up toxins, pollutants, bacteria and other harmful micro-organisms from the air that can affect your health. Taking an onion and cutting it into slices and placing those in a cup, bowl or plate and placing them around your home helps to purify the air and prevent germs, bacteria and other harmful toxins from entering your body.

HealthNutNation.com shares…

“When the 1918 flu pandemic killed 50-100 million people between 1918-1920, there was said to be a doctor who visited many farmers to see if he could help them combat the flu. The doctor came upon one household where everyone was very healthy. When the doctor asked what the family was doing that was different, the wife replied that she had placed a dish of unpeeled onions in each room of the home. The doctor asked if he could have one of the onions to observe under the microscope. When he did, he found traces of the flu virus in the onion. It had absorbed the infection, keeping the family healthy.”

The article goes on to tell the story of her hairdresser who heard this story and decided to place onions around her shop during flu season. To her surprise, “none of her staff got sick that year.” Another friend reported similar results and Mary Jane herself claims that her grandmother would have her eat a slice of onion sprinkled with salt when she got sick as a kid.

Onions are one of the best things to have on hand for their variety of health and healing benefits. Whether you put an onion in your sock while you sleep to stimulate circulation and purify your blood or put it in your room to purify the air, remove impurities and prevent flu or congestion, you’re doing your health a favor.

Onions contain sulfuric compounds that help to purify the blood, liver and more. They also contain b-vitamins, c-vitamins, minerals, an antioxidant known as Quercetin which is beneficial for heart health and much more. I do my best to include fresh onions in my salad each day to get all of the benefits internally. Applying the onion topically on the bottom of the feet while sleeping, bruises (for healing as an antiseptic) or just leaving the cut up onion in your bedroom or any room has a host of benefits as well.

I have heard that miners did not bring sandwiches with onions on them into the mines because they knew that the onion would soak up toxic compounds such as heavy metals and other airborne particles.

It is important to know that if you use an onion to soak up toxins from the bottom of your feet or in the room on a plate to not eat these onions, to throw them away. Hopefully this is obvious! The onion will turn brown as it oxidizes (ages from oxygen) and soaks up what it can in it’s vicinity. Try this experiment for yourself!
